Session 1 (Pick 1 of the 3 options)
Option 1 | "Transgender Health and Gender-affirming Care - Beyond the Basics" - Mair Marsiglio & Dorian Scull
Trauma-informed and gender affirming approach to caring for gender diverse people seeking ` and recovering from surgery. The presentation will highlight basic descriptions of each survey, common physical and emotional care needs in recovery, and ways providers are protective factors in achieving positive patient outcomes.
Option 2 | "Understanding Death with Dignity" - Dr. Chuck Blanke
Dr. Blanke will be reviewing the history of death with dignity in the US as well as comparing it to Europe and Canada. He will explore the legal implications as well as what other end of life options patients may have. There will be a time for questions as well as an RN panel who have managed DWD patients.
Option 3 | “Empowering Nurses to Partner in Advance Care Planning” with Erin Gallivan and Dr. Eriko Onishi
Our presentation will define key concepts in advance care planning, explain the importance of ACP discussions in ambulatory care, and empower nurses with new tools to explore patient goals, wishes and preferences for future medical care. We will highlight an innovative project and the creation of the Advance Care Planning RN Coordinator role at Family Medicine Gabriel Park Clinic.
Session 2 (Pick 1 of the 3 options)
Option 1 | “Ableism in the Medical Setting: Impact on Provider and Patient Outcomes” with Dr. Alena Guggenheim
There are many types of unconscious bias in our medical system that impact patients and providers. This talk with explore ableism, and the many ways in which this underrepresented, but ever-present bias can lead to provider burnout and poor patient outcomes. We will discuss basic definitions of disability, practice inclusive language and even play a rousing game of “spot the ableism”. This will be an interactive talk, so please come prepared to engage and share your thoughts in real time. Messy conversations often lead to the biggest leaps forward in learning!
Option 2 | "Workplace Violence and Crisis Communication" - Bobbie Hildreth & Thomas Forsyth
This presentation will go through the definition of violence in various workplace settings, and will provide crisis communication strategies to decrease patient escalation and improve staff safety. It will also assess violence risk and implement independent scope of practice interventions.
Option 3 | "The power of nursing: Our unique contribution in advancing patient care!" with Michelle Barnhart and PPL team
Let’s talk about the unique functional role of the ambulatory nurse, how it aligns with ANA scope and standards (RN role Rubric), and the importance of transferring our knowledge (our unique perspective) to contribute to individualized patient health plans/trajectories.
Session 3 (Pick 1 of the 3 options)
Option 1 | “Dismantling Weight Bias” with Kayleigh Rogalski
Dr. Rogalski will be guiding participants through a nuanced discussion of the harms of fatphobia. She promises there will be no finger wagging! In this talk, we'll explore how our culture has influenced our attitudes toward and beliefs about fat people. And how we, as compassionate healthcare workers, can make our clinics and offices more welcoming to anyone seeking care.
Option 2 | “Building Trust: Narrative Leadership for Interprofessional Nursing Teams” with Brian Park and Alex Mansour
This presentation will define psychological safety, including its impacts on interprofessional healthcare team performance and engagement. Brian and Alex will apply the Narrative Leadership framework to foster psychological safety, build connect, and support collaboration to enhance interprofessional team efforts.

Option 3 | “Healing and Recovery for Ourselves” with Sydney Ey
Are you flourishing? Do you take the time to pause and reflect on how you are doing, what you need, or how your team seems to be doing? This workshop offers some opportunities to explore ways to build self-reflection into your day, use healthy coping strategies to deal with stress, worry, and conflict, and to be guided “more often” by our core values about who we want to be.
